What Happens When Fire Burns Humans PDF Print E-mail

One of the most terrifying things for a human being to imagine is being set on fire. It is an excruciating way to die and many times death does not come right away. Humans can find themselves trapped in a building or a vehicle that is on fire with no way to escape. If a person caught themselves in this tragic position and had a gun handy, it is a sure bet that they had rather die from a self inflicted gunshot wound instead of having to experience death by fire.

In past history a person who was badly injured because of catching on fire and being badly burned, could not count on very much relief from the pain or from the scarring that it would ultimately leave behind. All that could be done for them was to knock them out with what ever alcohol or pain suppressant that was available and hopefully they could sleep to escape the pain. Unless there was something like laudanum at the time, there would not be much hope of that. We all know how agonizing even a small burn can be when you can not get something on it to stop the burning. Just imagine that a quarter or more of your body burned and no pain relief to be found.

Today there is so much better medical technology available to us. If a person that has been severely burned, even on the face, is able to get the proper treatment, they can go through the agony with little pain to suffer from and the scarring can be kept to a minimum if not eliminated all together. There are many burn treatment centers around the world where a burn victim can go to receive the treatment they need.

Plastic surgery will often include skin grafts to repair damaged areas of the body. It can take months or sometimes even years for a burn victim to go through all the surgeries they will need to complete the reconstruction process. For many of them it is well worth the torture they have to continue to go through in order to look and feel normal again.

Even with all the medical help for burns that is available today, there are still cases where there is just very much that can be done to correct the scars that a fire can leave. When all is said and done and there are no options left, some people end up just having to except the fact that they will never look normal again. These are some brave and courageous people, especially those who have had their faces terrible disfigured. The world can be cruel to anyone who does not look normal and the humiliation that burn victims often have to suffer at the hands of others can be almost as bad as the fire that burned them in the beginning.
